Today sees the launch of the 50th anniversary edition of ‘The STM Report: An overview of scientific and scholarly publishing’ (2018). Over the last six months I and my co-authors, Anthony Watkinson and Michael Mabe, have been hard at work pulling together the evidence base for this authoritative report covering all aspects of journal publishing, including market size and statistics, peer review, Open Access and new technology and market developments.
Originally released in 2006, the report, now in its 5th iteration, was officially unveiled at STM’s 50th anniversary conference at the Frankfurt Book Fair. My co-authors and I remain heavily indebted to Mark Ware, the previous lead author, on whose hard work this latest edition builds, and to the many individuals who generously contributed information and insights to assist us in the report’s preparation.
Our is hope that this 5th edition, like its predecessors, will serve as a credible reference point in the coming years for all who have an interest in the ongoing development of scholarly communication.
