The NIHR Research Support Service (RSS) provides expert advisory support to researchers developing applications to national health and care research funding programmes. RSS Advisors bring deep specialist knowledge to their role, but the service also requires strong consultancy and interpersonal skills.
Research Consulting designed and delivered a series of consultancy skills training workshops for Advisors in the NIHR Research Support Service Hub delivered by the University of Leicester and partners, helping them strengthen service delivery through practical techniques drawn from professional consulting practice.
Sessions were delivered through a mix of in-person and online delivery, amending the delivery approach to suit as needed.
Across 6 sessions, over 100 participants engaged in a bespoke, interactive programme supporting their professional practice, drawing on experience and observations drawn from work in universities and consultancy.
An additional session explored enhancing relationships and handling differences of view within Advisor teams.
Research Consulting (in particular, Dan King) has been really excellent in listening to and understanding our needs and helping us to develop an engaging training package. We really appreciated the collaborative co-design approach, and we’ve received very positive feedback from delegates. Research Consulting has been very flexible when some of our timescales have needed to change, and are always extremely professional and reliable.Dr Rebecca Barnes – Training and Development Lead – NIHR Research Support Service (RSS) Hub delivered by the University of Leicester and partners
