Through interviews and focus groups, we supported PLOS in exploring the potential of open science indicators from the perspectives of institutions and funders.

Exploring the potential of Open Science Indicators

Research Consulting was commissioned by PLOS to consult with research institutions and funding agencies to explore how, when, and why open science practices are currently monitored. The key aim of the project was to better understand the strategic drivers for institutions and funding agencies to monitor this space as well as what quantitative indicators may be helpful, building on work previously delivered by PLOS and DataSeer in this area.

We undertook a set of 13 semi-structured stakeholder interviews, including a total of 21 individuals, and delivered two focus groups. PLOS is using the insights gathered in this work to identify additional use cases and requirements that could inform the further development of their open science monitoring solutions.
