A review of research systems and information flows, leading to a report, evidence base and recommendations for future implementation

End-to-end review of research management systems and information flows

The University of Oxford commissioned Research Consulting to carry out an end-to-end review of research management systems and information flows across the University. Through interviews, a survey and focus groups the work involved consultation with over 180 internal users representing roles in central and departmental functions across the spectrum of users and stakeholders, in academic and professional services roles.

The project assessed the strengths and weaknesses of current systems and involved a review of the market for research systems including commercial systems and feedback from other institutions. The final report provided an evidence base and recommendations for implementation.

Research Consulting played a central role in a wide-ranging review of systems provision across the research management lifecycle at Oxford. Their work with us has enabled the setting of an institutional vision and supporting roadmap to transform the systems landscape for those undertaking and managing research across the University. Research Consulting got under the skin of our operating context, helped us to shape our priorities and brought deep market and sector insights. They added value at every stage and were a highly professional and responsive partner to work with.Dr Stephen Conway, Executive Director of Research Services
