Developing research strategies and assessment

Working for the Saudi Ministry of Education, Research Consulting were part of a consultancy team that delivered a project to pilot and inform approaches to research strategy development and the allocation of funds to support research via a developing national assessment approach.

The work involved support for the design of an assessment methodology, a review of initial submissions by 27 universities and feedback to them, with a final review and scoring of submitted evidence.

The submitted evidence included:
• Evidence on research funding and outcomes including patents
• Evidence from bibliometric analysis
• Narratives identifying the strategy and priorities for research at each university

The output of this work was a final report which set out high-level recommendations on repeating the exercise in future and recommended potential research funding tools and resources.
