Curated guidance and definitions on open access

The Publishers’ Licensing Services (PLS) sought to develop new guidance on open access as part of the PLS Rights & Licensing Hub, to meet emerging demands among publishers they serve both in the UK and internationally.

Through desk research, we developed accessible guidance covering definitions around open access, the re-use of third-party content, Creative Commons licences, text and data mining and transformative deals. The text we developed is accompanied by further reading links, sourced from a range of organisations in the research and publishing landscape.

This guidance is now available via the PLS website and will be reviewed over time to ensure it remains current.
